Mac OS X Panther QuickSteps

 < Day Day Up >

Mac OS X provides two easy ways to share files and folders with other users of your Mac:

Tip

To provide quick access to the /Users/Shared/ folder via the Finder, drag the Shared folder to the Sidebar to create an entry for it.

To access the /Users/Shared/ folder:

  1. Click the Finder icon on the Dock. A Finder window will be displayed.

  2. Click Macintosh HD in the Sidebar. The contents of your Mac’s hard disk will be displayed.

  3. Double-click the Users item. The contents of the Users folder will be displayed.

  4. Double-click the Shared item.

Set Permissions on Files and Folders

Instead of placing files in the /Users/Shared/ folder, you can also share items by placing them in folders on which you set permissions that allow other users the required level of access. For details on changing permissions on a file or folder, see “Change an Object’s Permissions and Ownership” in Chapter 3.
