Table 6-1 lists some of the more useful keyboard shortcuts that can save you time while working with Writer documents.

Opens/Closes Navigator window (whether it's docked or undocked).

Opens/Closes the Stylist window (whether it's docked or undocked).

Home

Moves the cursor to the beginning of the line.

End

Moves the cursor to the end of the line.

Ctrl+Home

Jumps to the beginning of the document.

Ctrl+End

Jumps to the end of the document.

F9

Updates fields (such as cross-references, dates, and page numbers ).

Ctrl+Enter

Creates a manual page break.

F12

Applies numbering to selected paragraphs. Also removes numbering.

Shift+F12

Applies bullets to selected paragraphs. Also removes bullets.

Shift+Enter

Creates a soft return. In a paragraph, a soft return drops the cursor to the next line (properly indented in a bulleted or numbered list) without creating a new paragraph.

Ctrl+b

Applies/Removes bold formatting in selected text.

Ctrl+i

Applies/Removes italic formatting in selected text.

Ctrl+u

Applies/Removes underlining in selected text.

Ctrl+z

Undo. Reverses the previous change you made.

Ctrl+Space

Creates a nonbreaking space to keep items together on the same line.

Ctrl+a

Selects all contents of the document.
