You can broaden or narrow your search criteria using the Advanced Search setting in Lindows.

Click on the Advanced tab in the Search window. This will bring you to an area where you can expand or contract your search criteria.

Click on the down arrow next to the Of type box to choose from different file types to search.

All Files and Directories . The search will examine all files and directories on your computer.

Files . The search will examine only files and ignore directories.

Directories . The search will only examine directories.

Symbolic Links . This will search for files that have a path name to another file.

Special Files . This search will look for files that perform system functions.

Executable Files . The search will only look for files that can launch applications.

SUID Executable Files . This search will look for Set User ID executable files only.

Others . There are dozens of other file types to select from in the search list.

Click in the Containing Text text box . When you search for files containing certain text, the entire contents of the file will be searched looking for that text. For example, if you forgot what you named a file, but you remembered that it had certain text in it, like a name, you could use the Containing Text criteria to enter the name and conduct the search.

Type in the text you are looking for.

Click on the Case Sensitive (content) box if you want your text search to be case sensitive. An X will appear in the box.

Click on the down arrow beside the Size is box. A list of options will appear.

Click on the desired option . If you know the approximate size of the file you are looking for, you can conduct a search looking for a file equal to, greater than, or less than a particular size.

Type a number in the Size is text box, or use the up or down arrow to increase or decrease the size.

Click on the down arrow to select the unit of measurement.

Click on Find to conduct your search.
