Directory Deployment Impact
The directory world at Big State University is generally an improvement over the old one. On- and off-campus users have easy access to accurate white pages information about university faculty, staff, and students via a variety of clients . All users have access to the popular bigstate.edu email service, whose group feature is especially liked . Many new directory-enabled applications have been deployed across the campus to serve a variety of needs. The administration aspect of the directory is both good and bad. The good news is that the directory provides a valuable service to the Big State community; the number of people accessing the service every day is a testament to its success. The bad news is that maintaining the directory is more expensive than the university's directory team would like. Decisions made in haste or using bad information at the beginning of the project (for example, its namespace design) have come back to haunt the directory maintenance team. The success of the service makes it difficult to go back and make fundamental changes; this would be too disruptive.
