  • How to start vi and emacs and create a new file

  • How to navigate in vi and use the insert mode

  • How to use a number of common emacs keystrokes

  • How to use job control keystrokes, including Ctrl+Z to suspend a running process

  • How to use the bg, fg, and jobs commands, which resume a job in the background, resume a job in the foreground, and list all currently existing jobs
