I notice that the file manager displays letters or words in some icons but not in others, and they sometimes don't make sense. Why?

If a file is human-readable (that is, not a program or an image file or something composed mostly of data), the file manager attempts to use the first few letters or words from the document as part of the icon to help you identify files without having to open them.
