• q Web content management, or WCM, gives control over editing and displaying content. This is especially necessary when working with web sites used by many people, such as intranet, extranet, and public Internet sites.

• q WCM is only available in MOSS 2007, not WSS 3.0

• q The management process is divided into: Create, Update, Publish, Archive, and Retire content.

• q Roles used in content managements are: Content Author, Editor, Publisher, Administrator, Consumer.

• q Important content management features in MOSS 2007: support for Metadata, Version History, Check Out/Check In, Approval, Workflows, Localizations, and Policies.

• q The previous product MS Content Management Server is now integrated into MOSS 2007.

• q MOSS web pages that support content management display a number of buttons and menus for editing a page.

• q The primary tool for editing layout files is the MS Office SharePoint Designer.

• q The page layout file consists of control fields, such as Page Content and Image Content. It can also contain zero or more Web Part zones.

• q The Page Content control field is a very rich editor - it allows the content author to add text, pictures, links, and tables; it also allows the author to edit the HTML source directly.

• q The Web Parts "I need to" and "Top Sites" on the intranet start page are configured by adding links to the Sites pages.

• q Before you start creating news articles and other Publishing Pages, you should add the images you need.

• q Each MOSS site that supports content management has a local Image library that stores images and pictures that is available for pages created in that site.

• q The start page of the intranet also has a Site Collection Images library. All images in that library are available in any site supporting content management.
