Working with Menus and Toolbars All Excel commands are organized on menus on the menu bar, and each menu contains a list of related commands. A short menu displays often used commands, and an expanded menu displays all commands available on that menu. A menu command followed by an ellipsis (...) indicates that a dialog box opens, so you can provide additional information. An arrow to the right of a command indicates that a submenu opens, displaying related commands. An icon to the left means a toolbar button is available for that command. Toolbars contain buttons you can click to carry out commands you use frequently. A keyboard combination to the right of a menu command indicates a shortcut key is available for the command. To choose a command, click the Toolbar button or click the list arrow. When you select a button from the list arrow, the button appears on the toolbar, showing only the buttons you use most often. Choose a Command Using a Shortcut Key -
To choose a command using a shortcut key, press and hold the first key, and then press the other key. For example, press and hold Ctrl, and then press S to perform the Save command. Display or Hide a Toolbar -

To move a toolbar to another location, click a blank area of the toolbar (not a button), and then drag the toolbar to a new location. To change the shape of a floating toolbar, position the mouse pointer over the edge of the toolbar, and then drag to reshape it. As you select menu commands or toolbar buttons, those commands and toolbar buttons are promoted to the short menu and shared toolbar if they were not already there. | |
