After you start Windows Messenger and sign in, you can send instant messages to anyone who has either MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger installed on their computer, has a .NET Passport or corporate instant messaging account, and is currently online. If you often exchange instant messages with certain friends , family members , or colleagues, you can add them as contacts.

Add a Contact

In the Windows Messenger window, click Add A Contact.

Click the By E-Mail Address Or Sign In Name option, and then click Next.

Type the e-mail address of the contact, and then click Next.

Click Finish.

Did You Know?

You can search for an e-mail address . Click the Search For Contact option, and then enter as much information about the contact as you have. Select to search the Address Book on your computer or to search the Hotmail Member Directory.
