GNU/Linux Application Programming (Programming Series)
While we ve only scratched the surface of text processing with sed in this short introduction, we ve seen some of the power provided by this little utility. We took a quick tour of regular expressions and their use in sed , as well as the use of numerical and pattern-based ranges to restrict sed s processing. We then reviewed some of the most-used sed commands, including substitution, printing, deleting, and transforming. We ended with a quick discussion of the use of the hold buffer, which gives sed the capability of memory.
