Review

Avid Xpress Pro has a ton of great audio tools and capabilities. I've worked with some facilities that like Avid's audio features so much, they edit a lot of their radio work on it. By far this has been the most extensive chapter so far; in reality one could write a book simply covering Avid Xpress Pro's audio features only. Let's review.

• To listen to an audio track, make sure the speaker icon is present.

• To "scrub" an audio track, turn on the Caps Lock key on your keyboard.

• You can solo tracks of audio and video.

• The Audio Mix tool is used for adjusting audio levels and pan values on entire clips and tracks.

• Adding keyframes to audio tracks allows you to mix or "ride" audio levels.

• The Automation Gain tool tracks and adds keyframes in real time as you play through a sequence.

• After adding keyframes, you can (and should) filter out the ones you don't need.

• The Audio EQ tool allows you to adjust the tonal characteristics of an audio track.

• The Audio tool is used to monitor audio levels.

• Audio Punch-In is handy for creating quick voiceovers .

• AudioSuite plug-ins are available if you need to add an effect or filter to an audio track.

• The Audio Mixdown tool allows you to edit with more than eight tracks of audio.
