To show the pragmatic path to migration, we will be migrating the example Portfolio Management System (PMS) to .NET. PMS has been developed in Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C++, and ASP. This gives us the same application developed using three different languages. Using the migration approach presented throughout the book, each of these applications will be migrated to Visual Basic .NET, Visual C++ .NET, and ASP.NET.

The next section will give a brief introduction to functionality covered in the PMS. Subsequent sections will briefly cover design- and architecture- related issues for developing PMS. The migration of these applications into equivalent .NET language is covered in detail in this and the next two chapters.
