Overview

This appendix provides a summary of the XPath 2.0 syntax, for use as a quick reference guide. A full description of each construct is provided in the companion book XPath 2.0 Programmer's Reference.

There are four tables:

• Tokens

  Lists the lexical symbols in the XPath language.

• Syntax Productions

  Lists the BNF production rules defining the XPath grammar.

• Operators

  Lists the operators in the XPath language, with their precedence and a quick summary of the effect of each operator.

• Axes

  Lists the 13 axes used in XPath for navigating a tree.

Appendix B contains a list of all the functions in the core function library.
