Special Edition Using Java 2, Standard Edition (Special Edition Using...)

The Java HotSpot Server VM is based on the same HotSpot technology as the Client VM. The only real difference is that it has a different compiler that is more suited for its role on a server application.

The 2.0 version is advertised to be a whopping 30% faster than the 1.0.1 version. The HotSpot Server VM must be downloaded separately from the standard SDK download. There is a version already available for the Windows platform and for Solaris. There is a release candidate for Linux with a full release for Linux expected later in Fall of 2000.
