Linux Enterprise Cluster: Build a Highly Available Cluster with Commodity Hardware and Free Software

The last chapter introduced the three configuration files used to control the operation of Heartbeat: ha.cf, haresources, and authkeys. The recipe in this chapter describes how to use these files on two servers, or nodes, so that Heartbeat can deploy resources in a high-availability configuration.

In a normal Heartbeat configuration, these files will be the same on the primary and the backup server (complex and subtle problems can be introduced into your high-availability configuration if they are not). The recipe in this chapter is a lab exercise that demonstrates how the Heartbeat system starts resources and fails them over to a backup server.
