You can adjust 3ds max according to your preferences, but if you want the image on your screen to coincide with the pictures in this book, do the following:

If possible, set the resolution of your monitor to 1152 × 864 pixels or more.

Open the 3ds max settings (Main menu à Customize à Preferences à General) and deactivate the Use Large Toolbar Buttons flag. Then close 3ds max (<Alt>+<F4>) and restart it.
