LDAP in the Solaris Operating Environment[c] Deploying Secure Directory Services

Chapter 7. Performing Administrative Tasks

Now that you are aware of the tools and techniques available for managing your LDAP directory data, as covered in Chapter 6 "Management Tools and Toolkits," you are ready to start administering your directory data.

Most of the routine administration tasks are covered in the Sun ONE Directory Server software documentation. This chapter does not repeat the procedures for performing those tasks, but instead presents tricks and tips that are not conventionally covered in standard documentation.

This chapter is organized into the following sections:

  • "Identifying Directory Management Tasks" on page 400

  • "Directory Data Backup and Recovery" on page 406

  • "Managing Client Profiles and Proxy Agent Accounts" on page 412

  • "Managing Directory Data Replication" on page 417

  • "Monitoring Directory Services" on page 424

  • "Managing Users and Groups" on page 432

  • "Extending the Directory Schema" on page 440

The focus of the chapter is on administering the Sun ONE Directory Server 5.2 software and the Secured LDAP Client. However, some examples are provided for previous versions and mixed environments.
