Chapter 2.  The Project, the Statement of Work, and the Specification

In this chapter, we examine various circumstances and situations in business and industry in which project possibilities have emerged. We identify the role of the project sponsor and the considerations a sponsor must review before making a general project decision. In addition, we identify the point at which a project manager typically enters into the project identification and project-defining procedure. We also discuss the role of a statement of work and explain the way a project manager proceeds from a general project concept to a precise project specification.
