Appendix C. ASA/PIX Version 7 and ASDM Software Recovery

In the unlikely event that the ASA/PIX Security Appliance will no longer boot because of hardware or software malfunction, you can take certain steps to easily reinstall the software on your security appliance.

If these procedures don't work for some reason, you should immediately contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center for help in the recovery process. Refer to the Cisco website at http://www.cisco.com/go/support.

You need to do four things before you can reinstall the ASA/PIX version 7 operating system:

Step 1.

Download the ASA/PIX version 7 operating system and ASDM software from Cisco.com.

Step 2.

Prepare your PC for the version 7 upgrade. Install a TFTP server on your PC and configure your PC so that you can recover the ASA/PIX operating system.

Step 3.

Download ASA/PIX version 7 to your security appliance.

Step 4.

Download ASDM to your security appliance.
