Cisco IPC Express System GUI Overview
The overall aspects of a Cisco IPC Express system that you must configure include the following, many of which are optional:
- Router
- IP phones and lines
- Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) interfaces
- Extensions and the dial plan
- Cisco CallManager Expess (CME) call processing features such as intercom and hunting
- automated attendant (AA)
- Personal mailboxes and general delivery mailboxes (GDMs)
- Message waiting indicator (MWI)
- Voice mail networking
- Backup and restore
The Cisco IPC Express GUI does not provide access to all the system's components. You must configure many basic router features (such as IP routing, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol [DHCP], and virtual LAN [VLAN]), the PSTN trunk interfaces, many dial plan aspects, intersite interconnection, and security features on the router itself. The router leverages the Cisco IOS general and voice infrastructure software discussed in Chapter 3, "Cisco IPC Express Architecture Overview."
You can configure components such as IP phones, extensions, AA, and voice mailboxes via the Cisco IPC Express GUI. This section briefly introduces the GUI. Later sections provide a configuration overview of each system component.
Figure 14-1 shows the following main menu items of the Cisco IPC Express GUI:
- Configure
- Voice Mail
- Administration
- Defaults
- Reports
- Help
Figure 14-1. Cisco IPC Express Main Menu
The next sections describe the submenus that make up each main menu, assuming that you logged into the system as an administrator. Note that to access the Cisco IPC Express GUI main menu shown in Figure 14-1, you have to point the browser to Cisco UE's IP address so that voice mail options are included.
Configure Menu
Under the Configure menu, you see the following submenus:
- Extensions Extensions correspond to the directory numbers (DNs) in the Cisco CME configuration. The extension can be either an actual number assigned to the IP phone or a virtual number for special features such as controlling the MWI.
- Phones This submenu shows the IP phones configured on Cisco CME. The list shows all the available IP phones with their corresponding Media Access Control (MAC) addresses. You can check if an extension is assigned to the appropriate phone.
- Users Users are the Cisco UE administrators and subscribers. Note that users in the voice mail system do not require phones, but they do need extensions. An example is mobile workers. They do not need a physical phone, but they do need a phone number so that people can leave them messages.
- Groups Groups are formed by building lists of members (users). A mailbox associated with a group is a GDM. It allows a voice mailbox to be shared among individuals working in the same organization or function so that any member of the group can act on incoming voice messages.
- Remote Users This information is the (optional) static directory of remote users defined for Cisco UE voice mail networking.
- System Parameters These are the Cisco CME features and system configuration parameters.
- CallManager Express This submenu shows the Cisco CME system that the Cisco UE voice mail is working with. As of Cisco UE release 2.0, the Cisco CME and Cisco UE making up your Cisco IPC Express system no longer have to be housed in the router.
Voice Mail Menu
Under the Voice Mail menu, you see the following submenus:
- Mailboxes This submenu lists voice mailboxes. An administrator can modify the parameters in each mailbox.
- Distribution Lists This submenu lets you configure public and private voice mail distribution lists.
- Message Waiting Indicators This submenu provides two options: refresh and number. Use the refresh option to initiate a manual refresh of all MWI lights. The number option shows the current MWI DNs defined by Cisco CME.
- Auto Attendant This submenu allows you to access the AA definitions to upload or download prompts or scripts, change script parameters, and change the AA pilot number.
- Call Handling This submenu shows the voice mail and Administration Via Telephony (AVT) Telephony User Interface (TUI) pilot numbers and the voice mail operator number.
- Prompts This submenu shows a list of prompts used by the system and by the customized AA scripts. It allows you to upload, delete, and download the .wav files.
- Scripts This submenu shows a list of system and customized AA scripts.
- Business Hours Settings This submenu allows you to customize the business hours used by the system AA.
- Holiday Settings This submenu allows you to customize the list of holidays used by the system AA.
Administration Menu
Under the Administration menu, you see the following submenus:
- Synchronize Information This submenu allows you to force a synchronization of databases between Cisco CME and Cisco UE. As configurations change, Cisco CME and Cisco UE perform periodic updates between the two systems. The synchronization does not require a system reboot, but it also is not performed each time you make a configuration change. Thus, for a brief period the router's configuration (Cisco CME) might be out of step with the Cisco UE configuration for items such as extensions that appear in both databases. If you have made configuration changes, it is recommended that you synchronize the databases before writing the configurations to permanent storage.
- Backup/Restore This submenu sets up the FTP server and directory information for Cisco UE Backup and Restore. You can also invoke a backup or restore operation from here.
- Domain Name Settings (DNS) This submenu shows the current DNS settings. Changes are allowed.
- Network Time and Time Zone Settings This submenu shows the current settings. Changes are allowed.
- Control Panel This submenu allows you to save the Cisco CME configuration (the router's configuration), save the Cisco UE's configuration, or initiate a reload of Cisco UE.
- Traces This submenu allows you to enable debug traces on the Cisco UE system. When the system is active, traces are collected on the designated file or server. You cannot read the traces from the GUI; you can only start and stop them. CLI access is required to read trace information.
- Networking Locations This submenu allows you to configure sites in the network, including the local site, for voice mail networking.
Defaults Menu
Under the Defaults menu, you see the following submenus:
- User Here you configure password and PIN defaults for new accounts, as well as password expiry and minimum length policies.
- Mailbox This submenu lets you configure the default mailbox and message sizes for new accounts.
- Voice Mail This submenu lets you configure the system defaults for the message store, message sizes, broadcast message MWI and expiry, caller ID for external callers, and enabling or disabling the voice mail networking cache.
Reports Menu
Under the Reports menu, you see the following submenus:
- Voice Mail This submenu summarizes voice mail parameters such as the number of mailboxes and how much time is used.
- System This submenu shows information about hardware on the Cisco UE system.
- Backup History This submenu lists past Cisco UE backups; the IDs, dates, and times; and the characteristics of the backup choices.
- Restore History This submenu lists past restores; the IDs, dates, and times; and the characteristics of the restore choices.
- Network Time Protocol This submenu shows the IP address of the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server and the time difference between the host and Cisco UE.
- Call History This submenu shows the history of Cisco CME calls over the past 24 hours.
Help Menu
The Help menu provides access to online help. The About menu gives system configuration information such as the router platform you are using.
