The A+ Certification & PC Repair Handbook (Charles River Media Networking/Security)

This chapter has given you a solid foundation in operating system basics, DOS, and command prompt functionality in Windows. It is meant to prepare you for the chapters that follow. In fact, this entire book has been preparing you for the study of Windows 9x, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows XP operating systems.

In this chapter, you should have gained an understanding of the underlying files and command line utilities that were used to create and maintain the operation of early operating systems. Although many DOS and Windows 3x details were not covered in this chapter, the concepts needed to prepare you for the core operating systems components of the test have been well defined.

You will really need to focus over the next few chapters. The Operating Systems Technologies exam is much more difficult that the Core Hardware Service Technician exam.
