Awesome 3d Game Development: No Programming Required (Charles River Media Game Development)
In this chapter, we are going to turn our attention to our first game-making application, called Multimedia™ Fusion™. This development tool is mostly used for 2D games, but because it is the most well-rounded game development tool available in the non-programming category, it’s a perfect way to start out. With it, you can create a wide variety of games, and the support from Clickteam (www.clickteam.com) is top notch.
Installation
Before we can use Multimedia Fusion, we must first install it. The installation process begins by double-clicking the file called MMFDemo.exe, located on the CD-ROM in the Applications folder. When you double-click the file, it will begin the process of extracting the installation files, and a screen similar to Figure 7.1 will be displayed.
Click the Next button on the first screen; this brings us to the second window (see Figure 7.2) of our installation. This screen will display a quick overview of the installation process we are now going through. Click the Next button again, which displays a window that allows us to choose the extraction location. This will be a temporary location to which the setup files will be extracted. You can leave this at its default (seen in Figure 7.3) unless you are low on hard disk space or have another reason for wanting to change to another drive or folder.
After you have decided on the extraction folder, click Next to display the next step for the extraction (see Figure 7.4). This screen allows you to verify the location that will be used for storing the files. You can verify this and then click Next, which will start extracting the files as seen in Figure 7.5.
The final step in the extraction will be to click Exit on the last window that is displayed (see Figure 7.6), but before doing so, make sure that Launch the Install Program is selected.
Immediately after you click Exit, the window seen in Figure 7.7 is displayed, and you are ready to start the installation process. The first window doesn’t really offer much in the way of information, but it does confirm that we are in the actual installation program.
The next step is the license agreement for Multimedia Fusion, a part of which can be seen in the Figure 7.8. You should read through the agreement and click on Accept when you are satisfied with it. When you click Accept, you will move to the next step of the installation process. This window, seen in Figure 7.9, allows you to enter your user information. After filling out the form, click the Next button. This displays Figure 7.10, which allows you to verify your user information. After verifying your information, you can click the Next button.
The next step in the installation is to choose the type of install you wish to perform. In Figure 7.11, you can see the Typical and Custom options. The Typical install is the easier of the two options and is the one we’ll select, after which we’ll click the Next button.
Our next window, seen in Figure 7.12, allows us to choose a destination folder. You can choose any location you like, but we’ll assume that it is installed in the default location.
After choosing a new location or leaving it to be installed to the default location, you can click the Next button, which will allow us to choose the shortcut folder, which can be seen in Figure 7.13. Leave it as is and then click Next to display the final options window for our install (see Figure 7.14). This window allows you to verify your selections, and you can click Install after you have done so.
The files will begin copying, which can be seen in Figure 7.15. Once all files are copied, you will see a window like that in Figure 7.16. This window may be displayed for some time while the installation process finishes, and another window is displayed, which can be seen in Figure 7.17. You can click OK to end the installation; this requires a reboot of the computer to finish (see Figure 7.18).
