| Virtually every organization runs a web server, either for internal useto hold documents for the organization's employeesor to serve content to the public at large. The Objectives on this part of the test cover basic configuration of a secure Apache web server. They also cover Squid, a popular open source (http://www.opensource.org) caching server. Despite the name of the section, the LPIC tests do not cover Web Services of the SOAP variety, which implement applications over the Web. Only basic web configuration is covered. Objective 1: Implementing a Web Server Candidates should be able to install and configure a web server. This objective includes monitoring the server's load and performance, restricting client user access, configuring support for scripting languages as modules, and setting up client user authentication. Also included is configuring server options to restrict usage of resources. Objective 2: Maintaining a Web Server Candidates should be able to configure a web server to use virtual hosts and the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and to customize file access. Objective 3: Implementing a Proxy Server Candidates should be able to install and configure a proxy server, including access policies, authentication and resources usage. |
