In addition to the source code, the CD includes a few useful and interesting applications. Each includes its own installer and instructions and I recommend at least taking a look at each of them. Below are short descriptions of each.
The DirectX 8.1 SDK
Chances are, you already have this, but it is included in case you don't. In either case, take a look at the curve and surface features that are included in the DirectX SDK. The documentation talks about them, but the material in this book should give you a better sense of what the features and parameters actually do.
