On DECnet-Plus systems, you may use a foreign file specification to specify remote files that do not conform to OpenVMS filename rules:

node::"foreign-filespec"

The following file specification includes a question mark, which is not legal under OpenVMS filename rules. It must therefore be enclosed in quotes:

MIAMI::"file?.text"

The filename must be in a format recognized by the operating system running on the remote node.
