Windows NT/2000 ADSI Scripting for System Administration

With the explosive growth of Web technology, the ability to manage Web environments more efficiently has become essential. Using ADSI you have over 100 properties at your disposal to manipulate the IIS Metabase, making it an extremely robust set of interfaces for automating the administration of Web environments.

In this chapter, we will look at management of the IIS Web service, including virtual site and directory binding, as well as aspects of property inheritance. We will also discuss the programmatic administration of the following:

• The Web Site, Web Operators, and Performance property sheets.

• The Home Directory and Documents property sheets.

• The Directory Security and HTTP Headers property sheets.

In this chapter, you will also continue the creation of the IIsAdmin.DLL COM server application you started in Chapter 8, "Programmatic Management of the IIS Metabase."

Note

Although this chapter focuses on IIS 4.0, the structure of the Metabase in IIS 5.0 is nearly identical to that used in IIS 4.0. As a result, all code segments in this chapter can also be used with IIS 5.0 implementations .
