Using Samba: A File and Print Server for Linux, Unix & Mac OS X, 3rd Edition

1.9. What Can Samba Do?

We'll wrap up by showing how Samba can currently help out and how it is limited. Table 1-7 summarizes the roles that Samba can and cannot play in a Windows NT or Active Directory domain or a Windows workgroup. The Windows domain protocols are proprietary and have not been documented by Microsoft, and therefore must be analyzed by developers before Samba can support them.
