Two stand-alone dump tools are shipped with Linux on zSeries for generating system memory dumps:

  • DASD dump tool for dumps on DASD volumes

  • Tape dump tool for dumps on tape

When your Linux for zSeries completely crashes or hangs, the last thing you can do is to take a system memory dump and afterward inspect the dump to identify the problem. To inspect the dump, you can use lcrash the Linux crash dump analyzer. lcrash has a command-line interface with simple command-line editing, history mechanism, and command-line completion.
