In Flash you can draw only vector images but you can work with bitmaps by importing them from other applications. For a discussion of bitmap and vector images refer to Chapters 6 and 19. You can optimize in Flash, but you have many more optimizing features in Fireworks. It's a good idea to optimize prior to importing into Flash.

To import bitmap images, choose File ® Import to place the image on Stage and in the Library. Or choose, File ® Import to Library to place it in your movies library.

To edit an imported bitmap, choose one of these options:

• Right-Click (Control+click) it and choose Edit with Fireworks.

• In the Library panel right-click (Control+click) the name, and you also have an option named Edit with... where you can navigate to a different editing application.

• Click the Edit button in the Property inspector.
