TruCluster Server Handbook (HP Technologies)

4.7 Network Planning for the Cluster

Network planning for a cluster should be very similar to network planning for an individual server except that you have a lot more names – hosts and cluster – and IP addresses to deal with. In this section, we will discuss some issues around network planning for a cluster that may help in the overall implementation of the cluster.

4.7.1 Network Information for the Cluster

Before starting the installation of Tru64 UNIX, plan ahead and have all your network information ready and available. Network information should include the following:

4.7.2 To gated or not to gated?

While gated is not required for a stand-alone Tru64 UNIX server, prior to version 5.1A Patch Kit 1, it is required to implement TruCluster Server. If you are implementing a version of TruCluster Server prior to version 5.1A Patch Kit 1, we recommend that when routing configuration is performed on the Tru64 UNIX server, as part of the configuration setup, that you choose to use gated in preparation for the implementation of TruCluster Server.
