The UML Profile for Framework Architectures
5.7 Summary
The well-known concept of framework cookbooks can be combined with UML-F annotations of construction principles and patterns. Generic recipes for the Unification and Separation construction principles and the Composite pattern have been presented to illustrate the application of the framework cookbook concept. The generic recipes indicate that a tool could be provided to help automate the adaptation of frameworks that are annotated by UML-F tags.
The definition of a 'guided tour' through an entire framework is highly framework-dependent. It provides an overview and then gradually digs deeper into the framework details. Alongside a guided tour, UML-F diagrams help to pinpoint the variation points. Chapter 6 exemplifies the application of UML-F in the context of a cookbook. It introduces the JUnit testing framework and illustrates the JUnit adaptation process.
