In this case, it's Li who dies and maybe Jen as well, although her final fate is a bit uncertain. Some might hate Jen because of the destruction she leaves in her wake. I believe, however, that we are intended to see her as a sympathetic figure, just as Li does. She certainly becomes more likeable when she decides to sacrifice her life, or at least her current form of existence, for the greater good.
