Project Management with the IBM Rational Unified Process: Lessons From The Trenches

  • To identify all significant risks on a project, you must be aggressive and proactive. Seek out the right stakeholders, and ask the right questions to help identify the risks.

  • After you identify the risks, you must actively manage them. This means that you must periodically revisit identified risks, and mitigation plans must be put into action as necessary.

  • If possible, place identified risks in some sort of online system that can be accessed by the stakeholders on the project.

  • Use iterative development to investigate and drive out risks. Risky technical issues should be scheduled in the earliest possible iterations.
