Galgano Bench
In a small chapel on the grounds of San Galgano, this bench sits against a stone wall as the only piece of furniture. The sun was streaming through open arched windows, creating strong contrast and deep shadows. In planning the exposure of this scene, I chose to reveal detail in the shadow areas at the expense of detail in the sunlight area. Nikon D2H 1/80 sec, f/11 Focal length 24mm Orcia Landscape
This was the scene that greeted me each morning as I looked out the window of my hotel in the Val d'Orcia in southern Tuscany. I liked the way this photo came together, with the broad compositional divisions of foreground trees, middleground house, and background sky, along with the pinpoint accent of the white house.
