compressed drive A drive that has been condensed to take up less space on the hard disk by using a compression tool such as NTFS compression utilities.
disk quotas A restriction that can be placed on users so that they can only use a predefined amount of a hard disk’s available space.
partition A smaller part of a larger hard disk. When a disk is partitioned, it is split into two or more smaller, virtual drives. Partitions can be created to hold data, hold applications, or create a multiple boot computer.
volume An area of the hard disk used for storing data. See also partition.
