XMLSS: The Excel XML vocabulary Narrative text may be the most flexible way to communicate data, but when you want to see how it all lines up, there is nothing quite like a spreadsheet. It was the original "killer app" for the PC, and now, with a strong shot of XML, it is more powerful and useful than ever. This chapter teaches you how to create worksheets that import and export XML data. Excel makes it easy: you don't have to write scripts or code to work with XML. And XML import means you can use Excel's advanced capabilities for data analysis on almost any data, whether it comes from a database, Web service, or an XML file. Skills required | Experience using Microsoft Excel to perform basic tasks, such as creating and editing worksheets. Sharing data with some kinds of XML documents requires knowledge of XSLT (see Chapter 18, "XSL Transformations (XSLT)", on page 392). | |
