Word offers two ways to create a Web page:

  • The Web Page template lets you create a Web page from scratch, using appropriate formatting options.

  • The Save as Web Page command lets you save a regular Word document as a Web page. This encodes the document and saves it as HTML.

Tips

  • HTML (or HyperText Markup Language) is a system of codes for defining Web pages.

  • I explain how to save a regular Word document as an HTML file near the end of this chapter.

To use the Web Page template

1.

Choose File > Project Gallery (Figure 1) or press to display the Project Gallery dialog.

If necessary, click the New button to display icons for new document templates (Figure 2).

Select the Web page icon.

4.

Click Open. A new document appears in Online Layout view (Figure 3).

5.

Enter and format text in the document window as desired to meet your needs.
