The blinking insertion point indicates where the information you type or paste will be inserted. There are two main ways to move the insertion point: with the keyboard and with the mouse.

Tip

  • The insertion point also moves when you use the Navigation Pane to navigate within a document. The Navigation Pane is discussed in Chapter 1.

To move the insertion point with the keyboard

Press the appropriate keyboard key(s) (Table 1).

Tip

  • There are additional keystrokes that work within cell tables. I tell you about them in Chapter 8, where I discuss tables.

To move the insertion point with the mouse

1.

Position the mouse's I-beam pointer where you want to move the insertion point (Figure 31).

Click once. The insertion point moves (Figure 32).

Tips

  • Simply moving the I-beam pointer is not enough. You must click to move the insertion point.

  • Do not move the mouse while clicking. Doing so will select text.
