The preceding chapter discussed the concept of a Deployment Unit, which brings together a Release Package and associated artifacts ready for subsequent deployment. This chapter looks in more detail at how Release Packages can be constructed and deployed. After reading this chapter, you will be able to

• Create Release Packages for standard Java, Web, and J2EE applications.

• Create a Deployment Unit file that records the set of Release Packages to be deployed.

• Automate the deployment process using the Rational Build and Deployment Tracking capability.

• Physically deploy Release Packages to file systems and Web and application servers.

This chapter assumes that you are familiar with the concepts of the Deployment Unit and staging, as discussed in Chapter 10, "The Art of Releasing."
