There are many applications for the techniques of organic modeling you've learned in this chapter. Almost any complex curvy shape can be modeled with some accuracy using this method, and the mesh is fairly easy to edit because of the small number of vertices used. Some of the tools you've used include the following: Extruding edges The most common way you create new geometry is to select one or more edges and then extrude. This lets you add faces to your model only in the areas where you want them. Split Polygon tool This tool allows you to add detail where needed by cutting any number of polygons in a row. Extruding polygons Using extrusions is another method for adding polygons to your model. This technique is perfect when you need to have something popping out of or into the mesh. Snapping You used vertex, grid, and curve snapping in this chapter. None were switched on; they were simply enabled during a single move operation. Working with multiple image planes You can have more than one image plane per camera, and because they exist in physical space, you can set where they appear and which image predominates. |
