Summary
In this chapter, we started looking at the actual storage requirements for the backup. First, we determined the required backup window and calculated the amount of data we need to store each day. With this information, we looked at some of the tape drive technologies and how to determine how many drives might be needed to support the backup bandwidth. This led to a discussion on calculating how many active tape cartridges you would need to support. We recommend selecting an appropriate robotic library that will support the required number of drives and cartridges.
Next, we will look at actually putting this all together in a configuration.
