About This Chapter

Security settings define the security-relevant behavior of Windows 2000. Through the use of group policy objects (GPOs) in Active Directory, administrators can centrally apply the security levels required to protect enterprise systems. Local GPOs can also be used to apply security to nonenterprise and workgroup systems. This chapter provides details on using security settings to configure a system's security.

Before You Begin

To complete this chapter, you must have

• Installed Windows 2000 Server on a computer (Server01)

  See chapter 8, Installing Microsoft Windows 2000 for more details.

• Configured the computer (Server01) as a domain controller in a domain
• The ability to manage and configure groups by using group policies (as explained in Chapter 19, "Managing Active Directory Directory Services Components")
