You can add color to an AutoShape or a text box to draw attention to it or to make it more interesting.

  1. Display the Drawing toolbar by following steps 1 to 3 in the section “Add an AutoShape.”

  2. Click the AutoShape or text box to which you want to apply color.

    Handles () appear around the image.

  3. Click to display available colors.

  4. Click the color you want to apply.

    Word fills the AutoShape or text box with the selected color.

    You can press to cancel the selection of the image.
