Absolute Beginners Guide to Tablet PCs

There are several options for docking stations. Some manufacturers, such as Compaq and Fujitsu, have docking stations specifically designed for their tablets. If your Tablet PC has that option, and if you're looking to buy a docking station, I recommended you try the docking station offered by your tablet's manufacturer first, because it will probably provide more functionality than a generic docking station.

What to Look For

Your connection options are USB and PC card interfaces. USB will not be able to offer the same capabilities as a PC card interface, but a USB docking station will be able to offer the main ports that you'll need.

One docking-station option is the EasiDock 1000EV from Mobility Electronics. It is also sold as the docking solution for the Acer Tablet PC, and can be ordered from CDW and many other retailers.

The EasiDock connects to the Tablet PC or other laptop with a CardBus interface. It has ports for PS/2 mouse and keyboard, a serial port, a parallel port, and two USB ports. It also contains a video adapter that allows you to add an additional display, offering a third screen for most Tablet PCs.

The EasiDock 1000EV lets you add additional ports to your Tablet PC by simply inserting a CardBus card.

Special Features:

CardBus adapter, includes extra video adapter and multiple ports
