For maximum handwriting recognition, keep words separated, use lowercase letters predominantly, and use cursive. Use the Input Panel Keyboard and/or the Symbols Pad to insert just a few characters or symbols. Table B.1 lists the gestures you can use within the Input Panel.

Table B.1. Gestures Available in Writing Pad
Gesture Sample	Meaning	Comments
	Backspace	Deletes the character to the left of the cursor, as does pressing the Backspace key.
	Space	Inserts a space at the insertion point.
	Enter	Inserts a carriage return at the cursor.
	Tab	Inserts a tab.
	Scratch-out	Tells the recognizer to ignore the handwriting before it leaves the input area. Can be used over a letter, word, or several words. Must block out most of the item to be deleted.
