Mac OS X Unix 101 Byte-Sized Projects

This chapter covers some common networking tasks such as file sharing, Web serving, and network query tools. Although Apple provides graphical tools for administering the network, those tools do not afford the same freedom to configure services as their command-line equivalents. The eight projects cover the following topics:

Sharing files via AppleShare and NFS (Network File System)

Probing and testing networks, and querying the DNS (Domain Name System)

Configuring Apache, the Web server built in to Mac OS X

Configuring an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server
