Photoshop CS For Dummies

In order to apply a filter or paint on a type layer, you must rasterize the type. Rasterizing means that type on a type layer is converted from vector type into pixels on a regular layer.

To rasterize type, select the type layer you want to convert in the Layers palette, and then choose Layer→Rasterize→Type.

After rasterizing, the type looks the same as it did before; however, you can no longer edit the type or change its character or paragraph attributes.

Remember

If you decide you would rather have editable text on a text layer after converting it, just choose Edit→Undo or select a history state on the History palette prior to the conversion. (To find out more about the History palette, turn to Chapter 14.)
