Photoshop CS For Dummies

Overview

In This Chapter

Newcomers to Photoshop are often very excited to find that they can create amazing image effects by simply applying a Photoshop filters — and there are almost 100 filters to play with. The good news is that power users also get plenty of bang for their buck with Photoshop filters. There are Photoshop filters that create almost any kind of effect you can think of with a few clicks of the mouse.

All the filters are available on the Filters menu. They are divided into group styles such as Artistic, Brush Strokes, Stylize, and Texture. Within each group are associated filters. (I cover filters in detail in Chapter 11.)

Although this chapter only shows you a few filter categories, I can assure you that you’ll end up with well more than ten filter effects. You can use the filters shown in this chapter to create countless fast and wonderful effects.

Because these effects are visual (of course) this chapter contains a brief explanation of the filter group and samples of the filters available in that group in action.

Remember

Not all the filters are covered here. I show you a few Artistic filters including Cutout, Dry Brush, and Fresco; Sketch filters, such as Charcoal and Graphic Pen; and Stylize filters like Emboss and Solarize.
