Caution! Wireless Networking: Preventing a Data Disaster

In this chapter, I explained how your WLAN is vulnerable and presented steps that you should take to secure your WLAN. Among these were:

• Changing default passwords, SSID, and usernames

• Editing IP addresses

• Turning off DHCP and assigning static IP addresses

• MAC and IP address filtering

• Adjusting broadcast power and setting a minimum connection speed

• Using encryption

• Using a personal firewall

• Locking down client and host computers

Following these recommendations, you will be able to secure your WLAN so that it will be highly unlikely that a cracker or wardriver will be able to connect to your network.
