The Microsoft programmers designed Office so that the commands and features commonly used by most people are within easy reach. This means that the setup of the menu system and toolbars reflects what the ordinary user might want. However, no oneparticularly an Office guruqualifies as an ordinary user; we all work with Office in our own way. What one person uses every day, another needs only once a year; one user's obscure technical feature is another's bread and butter.

To address these differences, Office provides what might be the most customizable interface on the market today. Office lets you create custom menus either by deleting some of an application's built-in commands or by adding new commands and attaching macros to them. You can also easily configure the toolbars by dragging buttons on or off them. You can even create your own button faces with the Button Editor. This chapter explores all of these customization features and more.
